Canada's New Obsession

There have been many music acts to come out of Canada and make it big and
there is one more act hoping to have the same success. Did you ever think
that you would be able to find an act that could sing, write and play
instruments? Well these girls can! Angels Obsession is a new act from
Toronto, Canada that has really made a name for themselves online and in
their area. Angel McPherson (18), and Ashley Sutherland (17) make up the
singing and songwriting duo that have different musical influences but one
goal, to make it big. These girls are very determined to make their mark in
the world and haven't let past failures stop them. They've both started
separate bands in the past that didn't work but together they feel like they
have a winning combination. And don't expect to hear synthesized
"bootylicious" beats out of these teens; they're really here to give you
something to listen to. And listen you shall. With so many pop acts just
singing and dancing their way up and own the charts it's refreshing to find
people who can do it all. I recently had a chance to ask Angel a few
questions about their music, their ambitions and their influences.
FFA/G: How would you describe the type of music that you make?
Angel: It's real music not your typical synth pop music. We use real
instruments and we write the songs ourselves or co-write. But really it's
Cathy and they're songs that we hope our fans can relate to.
FFA/G: There are always comparisons in the music industry, so if you had to
be
compared to anyone who would it be, past or present?
Angel: We've already been compared to a bunch of different groups just
based on our looks we were compared to a duo of Destiny's Child or Edens
Crush. But after the fans heard the music we were compared to groups like
Hanson and M2M and I think that's something we can actually agree with.
FFA/G: Who are your biggest influences?
Angel: In truth I think our biggest influence is Hanson. Since we wouldn't
have met if it wasn't for them. But we respect artists that write their own
stuff a lot more than the ones that have it written for them. We were both
raised with the sounds of the 50's and 60's so that's been a big influence
in our lives.
FFA/G: Do you feel that it's more important for your fans to like your music
or understand it?
Angel: I think it's different for every song. Sometimes you can identify
with the lyrics and relate them to your own life and other times it's just
the groove of the song that you're into.
FFA/G: If you could make a song about any of the problems in the world, what
would you sing about and why?
Angel: Maybe something about war? Why can't we all just get along????
FFA/G: What do you feel are the keys to success in this industry?
Angel: Really? The fans. Without fans you'd be nowhere they are what make
us what we are. But importantly you need strong material and a unique image
because to a record label you're a business not a person.
FFA/G: What's the most important advice that you were ever given?
Angel: We've gotten a lot of good advice throughout our lives but our
philosophy in music is that we have to stay grounded no matter what happens
and always acknowledge the fans because they are the people that got us
where we are.
FFA/G: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Angel: Hopefully still doing music. It's the only thing that we can see
ourselves doing. We hope to sign a recording contract and tour. And always
grow as songwriters and musicians and of course as people.
FFA/G: What advice do you have for anyone trying to make it in showbiz?
Angel: You've gotta have confidence in yourself and your music if you don't
believe in yourself why should anyone else? Also talk to everyone you never
know who might know someone that could help you.
Most importantly don't give up!
